In-House Lab Testing

What is in-house lab testing?

In-house lab tests allow your child to get the complete care they need in one location. By offering several in-house services, Newtown Pediatrics eliminates the need to travel to a separate clinic for testing. In addition to saving your family time and money on travel, in-house tests give you the results you need as quickly as possible.

The experienced pediatricians at Newtown Pediatrics also coordinate care between various specialists if your child needs a test that the practice doesn’t offer.

What kinds of in-house lab testing are available?

Newtown Pediatrics offers several types of in-house tests, including:

COVID testing

There are two types of COVID-19 testing that Newtown Pediatrics offers: viral testing and antibody testing. While a viral test detects the presence of SARS-CoV-2 through a nose or throat swab, an antibody test determines whether your child has certain antibodies that protect them from infection.

In-housing lab testing which includes:

  • Covid
  • Flu (influenza)
  • RSV (respiratory syncytial virus
  • Pregnancy
  • HIV (human immunodeficiency virus)

Hearing tests

If your child has a hearing problem, your child’s pediatrician may recommend:

  • Evoked otoacoustic emissions (EOAE)
  • Auditory brainstem response (ABR)

With EOAE, their pediatrician inserts a soft plug into their ear that plays different sounds. If your baby has hearing loss, their ears won’t respond to the sounds. For ABR, the sounds involve clicking noises. Both tests are quick and painless and only performed when your baby is sleeping.

Vision tests

When your child can’t see well, it can affect their school and work performance. Newtown Pediatrics offers several vision tests, including distance vision, close-up vision, and color blindness tests.

Vision screenings can help detect potential eye problems that might cause serious complications. Early treatment can preserve your child’s eyesight and vision.

After your child receives testing for their specific health issues, Newtown Pediatrics develops a care plan that helps them overcome challenges and achieve a better quality of life.

If your child has a complex medical condition, your child’s pediatrician works closely with a local specialist to ensure continuity of care.

Newton Pediatrics offers in-house lab testing to provide you and your child with the convenience of comprehensive pediatric care. To find out more about their lab testing services, call the nearest Newton Pediatrics office or book your test online today.
